Migrants from Africa and South America queue in line outside the Roosevelt Hotel waiting to obtain housing placement and a work permit in Midtown, Manhattan, NY, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
City officials report over 90,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since early 2022.
Mayor Eric Adams states the city is unable to provide adequate housing resources to incoming migrants without increased support from Washington.

The Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown is housing migrants with families while serving as the intake site for new arrivals.
Many migrants at the site are fleeing poverty, government corruption and persecution in Mauritania, Guinea and Burundi, the nation with the highest poverty levels in the world per GDP according to World Bank.
