People hold a vigil for Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old U.S. Air Force service member who died following an act of self-immolation to protest U.S. involvement in Israel’s widespread military destruction of infrastructure and killing of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip in Times Square, NY, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.

On Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, outside the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C., Aaron Bushnell began a livestream on the Twitch social media platform, stating “I am an active duty member of the United States Air Force and I will no longer be complicit in genocide.”
A few moments later, he lit himself on fire.
His last words were “Free Palestine.”
