20-year green-card holder, Heury Gomez, returns home to New York City following three months in ICE detention on November 22, 2025.
His family had been anticipating his return since August, when Mr. Gomez was handcuffed by ICE at Newark Liberty Airport and abruptly sent to North Lake Processing Center in Michigan. Mr. Gomez had more than himself to be concerned with while in detention. His 18-year-old son, Noah, is nonverbal, lives with cerebral palsy and a breathing tube in a New York children’s hospital. Mr. Gomez had recently endured a long custody battle to become Noah’s sole caretaker. Mr. Gomez's immigration and parental status were now under threat.
